Animals and Fireworks

The following is an article by the Trinidad and Tobago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (TTSPCA) published in the Trinidad and Tobago Newsday on Friday 31st August, 2007.

Fireworks are not animal-friendly. Invariably when communities celebrate with fireworks, the local animal shelter – Trinidad and Tobago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (TTSPCA) – and other animal aid organisations are overwhelmed by the “fallout”, which manifests in an increased number of stray animals and reports of injuries and trauma to those animals. Dogs are brought to the shelter with paws bloody from running or torn skin from tearing through a backyard fence, or worse, crippled from being hit by a car. Animals who are re-united with their families are indeed fortunate.
